26/3/10: Jam Media (founded by BCFE animation graduates John Rice, Alan Shannon
ansd Mark Cumberton) have won a Royal Television Society Award for
their show ‘Roy' in the Children's Drama category. Details here
8/3/2010: Oscar Winner!
Irish School of Animation graduate Richie Baneham last night picked up an Oscar in the category of Visual Effects at the 82nd Academy Awards for his work on the groundbreaking film Avatar. Congrats to Richie.
1/3/10: On Wednesday 24th February four ISA graduates and animation
Oscar nominees (Richie Baneham of Weta Digital, Tomm Moore of Cartoon
Saloon, Darragh O'Connell of Brown Bag Films and Nicky Phelan of Brown
Bag Films) visited Ballyfermot College. They were joined on the night
by another ISA graduate and IFTA nominee Andrew Kavanagh (Founder/CEO
Kavaleer Productions). It was a great occasion, attended by an

1/3/10: Kavaleer Productions, founded by ISA graduate Andrew Kavanagh, have
won Best Use of Film or Animation as well as the Grand Prix at the
2010 Digital Media Awards ( http://www.digitalmedia.ie/ categories.html )
for Hasan Everywhere (which was also directed by Andrew Kavanagh).
22/2/10: The Secret of Kells won in the Best Animation category at the IFTAS
and Richie Baneham won a BAFTA in the Special Visual Effects category
for Avatar.
22/2/10: Richie Baneham and Greg Maguire to visit BCFE on Wednesday 24th fo February: Richie is a Ballyfermot graduate, and Oscar winner for his work on Gollum in The Lord of the Rings films and Oscar nominee for his work on Avatar. Greg currently runs character development/pipeline company Zoogloo and has previously worked for Walt Disney Feature Animation, Industrial Light & Magic, Electronic Arts, Sullivan Bluth and Lucasfilm Animation. Time and venue to be confirmed.

5/2/09: Ballyfermot College (Irish School of Animation) graduates have
received three Oscar Nominations for the 2010 Academy Awards. Daragh O' Conner and Nicky Phelan of ‘Brown Bag Films' have been nominated in the Short Animation category for ‘Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty'. Tomm Moore of ‘Cartoon Saloon' has been nominated in the Animated
Feature Film category for ‘The Secret of Kells'.
And Richie Baneham of ‘Rhythm & Hues' has been nominated in the Visual

18/12/09: ISA CON 2010 is an animation and games event for students and industry professionals. This 2 day animation and games event is being held on the 7th and 8th January 2010 at BCFE. It is targeted at students, graduates and industry professionals alike. It's packed with guest speakers, panel discussions, workshops and portfolio sessions with industry professionals and academy award nominees from prestigious companies like Rare Ltd. and DreamWorks Animation.

6/11/09: TT Animation's ‘What's Your NEWS?' from Irish animator and BCFE graduate Chris Dicker, has won in the categories of both Best Pre-School Show and the overall Grand Prix Prize at the NHK Japan Prize, an international contest for educational media held in Tokyo. Dublin born Chris studied Classical Animation for four years at Ballyfermot Senior College , during which time he was selected to be a Walt Disney intern. He then started working for TT Games as a lead animator and designer and went on to work many TT Games titles. For more details visit the IFTN website.

For more details go to this site.14/9/09: Eleanor McCaughey, 2001 graduate of the Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design at BCFE, has been nominated for a BP 2009 Portrait Award. 12/7/09: Ballyfermot students Ben Harper and Sean Mullen won Best First Animation Category at the Galway Film Fleadh 2009 for their 3D film "Blip". You can view the movie here

9/2/09: BCFE Irish School of Animation students past and present were well-represented at the PAF festival in Prague from the 11th to 14th of December (www.pifpaf.cz)- in Czech) and the E-Magicians festival (www.youngcreation.net) from the 25-28th of November. Irish productions included Oscar-nominated 'Give Up Yer Aul Sins' and 'Reprieved'.

9/1/09: 5 BCFE students get into the final rounds for the Art of Nurture Competition run by Lloyds TSB: Heli Hirvonen (AIH), Catherine Murray (AGH2), David Loughman (AGH2), Faye Tucker (AGH1), and Gary McLoughlin (AGH1). The competition winner will be announced at the Hugh Lane on 15 Jan at 7 pm.

2/12/08: The Irish School of Animation at BCFE has been chosen to represent Ireland
at the e-magicians festival held in Valenciennes, France. The festival
runs from 25th November 08 to 27th November 08 and is sponsored by the
Supinfocom School of Valenciennes and Arles. It includes a presentation by
each of the 27 European countries. The Irish School of Animation will make
the presentation of Irish Animation which will consist of recent student
work and studio work from Cartoon Saloon and Brown Bag studios.
2/12/08: BA Animation graduate films ‘Reprieved' and ‘Border Control' will be
screened at the upcoming PAF 2008 Animation Film Festival in the Czech
Republic running from 11 -14 December. The focus of the festival will be
on Irish Animation with studios such as Cartoon Saloon, Brown Bag Films
and Monster Animation in attendance. Cartoon Saloon will also present the
very first public presentation of ‘Brendan and The Book of Kells' at the
festival.
